Vintage Watercolor Sketches began as a photoshoot on a rare, rainy Los Angeles day in downtown Los Angeles. That same shoot has inspired various other style interpretations you'll find in other works on this site. You may recognize some of the original images in other Series in your browsing.
There was something about that day that was an odd combination of relaxed, a little sad, and a little poetic.
This Series captures that both in content and in style with a harmony between sketched pencil marks and a watercolor overlay. Both of these effects were created digitally and shaped as I worked.
I've then finished them with the look of worn, archival, aged paper backings created using card-stock that's been stained with coffee, bent and torn and then digitally scanned and integrated. An overall effect that creates a vintage, lived in, well-worn but treasured look and feel.
I enjoyed making this series. I hope you'll find in them the same kind of ennui and poetry that inspired them.
